Rods

Rod of the Prismatic Mace

Description: Even the benevolent and merciful sun-goddess Madriel is said to encourage action against the most corrupt forces of evil. One of the mightiest weapons her priesthood has to bring against the darkest villains is this powerful rod, but her priesthood is fairly certain that there is but the single one kept safely within her greatest temple as a holy artifact to be used only in the most terrible times. Some bard tales of fantastical yet questionable nature claim that perhaps a very few more of these mighty rods remain from era of the Titanswar. This item appears as a beautifully crafted gold inlaid light mace with a long smooth handle and a perfectly spherical head set with seven gems of varying colors. A pair of studs is set into the handle, one black and the other white. Pressing the white stud envelops the head of the rod in a rainbow of deadly energies while depressing the black stud returns the rod to its normal state.

Powers: The rod may be used as a light mace with a +1 enhancement bonus to attack. If the white stud is depressed, however, seven shimmering arcs of light spring from the gems set into the head of the mace and it is surrounded with a miniature prismatic sphere. Anyone struck with the mace during that time suffers damage as though they passed through the spell of the same name, though they do not suffer the normal damage of a physical strike from the mace. Furthermore, all creatures within 20 feet of the mace, other than the wielder, with fewer than 8 HD are blinded for 2d4x10 minutes. If the wielder is targeted by cone of cold, gust of wind, disintegrate, passwall, magic missile, daylight or dispel magic then the spell is countered and the respective layer of the sphere is inactive for 24 hours.
