I received an E-mail from a long standing friend, Mr. Conrad Hubbard,
who was frusterated regarding a traffic ticket he received ten years ago in
Halifax County, North Carolina. I can not even imagine having my license
threatened ten years after a minor traffic violation. It is incomprehensible
to think that someone would keep a receipt from a minor traffic violation
for ten years.
I can say without any doubt that Conrad Hubbard is the most honest
person I know. Honesty is a cause with him. He refuses to stray from the
truth, even when doing so would be to his benefit. It would be unthinkable
to him to lie, even in this situation. If he says he paid the ticket I
guarantee he did. I would be willing to testify to that in court with full
knowledge of the consequences of perjury.
I assisted moving Mr. Hubbard to his current residence in Georgia and
he made it a point to explain that we would have to stop at all weigh
stations throughout the trip. I was prefectly willing to break the law in
this case and not stop at them because of the time that it would take,
however, he was insistant that we stop. He explained to me that he had had
to pay a large fine for not having done so in the past and that he was
unwilling to risk the consquences of not stopping. I tried to dissuade him,
explaining the chances of being pulled a second time were minor in the
extreme but he would not be moved.
Mr. Hubbard is a honest man. I can bear witness to this fact, as well
as to the conversation that we had prior to his moving to Georgia regarding
his payment of the fine ten years previous. I will be contacting the other
person who helped move him to ask them to likewise bear witness to the
conversation Mr. Hubbard and I had. Your message follows. Copies have been
sent Mr. Hubbard and myself as records of what I have wirtten.Brent Halstead
