PATHOS
PATHOS
by Conrad Hubbard

I am torn
like a cheap perfumed tissue
drenched in a flood of tears.
Your eyes cut through me
like a thousand jewelled razors.
Your smile burns my soul
with endless hungers.
Your honeyed words
steal my very thoughts.
My world is a pool of water
that you stir with a glance
into a frenzied cauldron.
When you left my side this eve
I was brutalized,
burned at the stake
of my heart's inquisition.
