I cannot seem to forget the day
you had me do your resume
as I tapped out the keys of my computer
you slipped beneath my covers
and drifted off to sleep
so I worked to help your future
with all the hope I keep
all the while you sailed away
into whatever dreams it is you seek
but I could not help but glance
with all the joyous wonder
that stays with lost lovers
and my heart beat with all the thunder
of the oceans in the deep
and I felt my soul dance
still at your side it hovers
for I was indelibly impressed
by the image of your loveliness
stretched out in your long black dress
with the butterfly upon the breast
all the memories of us
rose up in a whirlwind of dust
I turned back to the task at hand
to hide my pain, love and lust
as the last copy printed
and my work was all done
you said thank you
and then you were gone
your hold has not relented
my world came undone
I clutched where you had lay upon the covers
and cried into my bed
praying we'd again be lovers
as scents of you
swirled through my head.
