I know that what the white man
did was wrong
and by white  man
I mean those who had slaves
in times that have gone
but notice I don't say
my people
because, see, they are not my people--
naturalized by birth may make you
an American citizen, or a human being then
with certain inalienable rights
but I did not inherit
the white man's sin
and I did not fight his fights
nor have any of us been
slaves to anything more
than our own economy--
this original sin is just a close minded travesty
when you take another look at me
what kind of people do you see?
