How can I be a rock for you to hold
to shelter you from the storm
if I am rolling dangerously down a hill?
I must endeavor to break my fall
before it breaks my will,
but that does not mean
that I can settle for standing still
When you come looking for me
I want to be easy to see
so I'm climbing as far as I can go.
When you need me
I am going to be there,
just let me know.
I will be the stone face of a cliff on high
waiting for you until the day I die
and if I slip and fall
and plunge into the sea
I want to leave you the best of me.
Take what you want of my funeral chest,
take what you want and leave the rest,
take what you,
it is for the best,
I bend beneath this mighty test,
but the greatest of gifts
I can endow is the love you
should take from me even now.
