The
Purity of Blood
It was rather unforunate that I was interrupted
in my studies of Lady Numa's library and documents that I procured
in supposed service to Lord Marcus during my recent visit to L'Universite
in Paris. Recent events have evolved into a somewhat chaotic
matter, and I fear that the Camarilla has been shaken to its core
by them. Nevertheless, as a servant of Lady Numa, I am certain
that my position in the world is assured come what may.
Now, let's see where was I, oh, yes, the revelation of the power
that lies within the very nature of the Ventrue preferences for
blood that are called a weakness by lesser clans. Should
you be reading this information without having previously read
my introduction, you may be confused, and thus I recommend perusing
Part I of The Purity
of Blood before continuing.
From
the Library of Lady Numa
The Ventrue are possessed
of an extremely refined taste that prevents them from consuming any vitae,
blood, that does not bear properties specific to the individual Ventrue.
The Ventrue do not view this as a weakness. They see it as a significant
sign of their higher standards, and you will quickly understand why they
are correct. In many ways, this "weakness" serves as a powerful form of
defense in a culture of predators and slavers. No other clan of kindred
possesses such universal protection against the blood bond. As a Ventrue
cannot ingest any other blood, they are extremely difficult to trick or
force into drinking the blood of any vampire once, much less three times.
Indeed to bond a
Ventrue, one must first discover what his tastes are. Then one must,
in the likely event that one's own blood does not match such discriminating
criteria, seek out another who is suitable. If such an individual
is indeed not a vampire, you must embrace her. Of course, Ventrue
cannot ensure that their new child will be able to drink their blood either,
so the process can begin all over again.
This very powerful
resistance to the bond, created by the inability to ingest any unsuitable
blood, has had some interesting effects upon Ventrue as a whole.
It has provided us with the individual freedom to pursue goals that benefit
the clan as a whole without fearing the machinations of our fellow Ventrue
to the same degree as other clans do that have led to our clan running
the Camarilla. My clan has never had to fear the common and petty
trickery of blood bonding so prevalent in other clans.
What I am trying
to explain is that it is still possible to bond the Ventrue childe, merely
very difficult. Marcus, for example, could be bonded to any British
girl I could find and embrace. Of course, making sure that she was
bonded to me would be another matter. It is often much easier for
our kind simply to rely upon the mystical disciplines we have derived from
our founder to dominate and impress our childer.
The experiments
conducted by the scientists at L'Universite apparently corroborate milady's
experiences. Even in extreme cases, such as injection, blood of unsuitable
nature is expelled. As I am unable to bond anyone anyway, being merely
a ghoul, this does not concern me, but I find it very interesting nonetheless.
I wonder how Ventrue fare in the Sabbat, where they supposedly are forced
to drink from mass communal vessels. My own experiment in mixing
suitable blood with unsuitable blood has suggested that Ventrue cannot
consume it. Thus I must supposition that there are very few Ventrue
within the Sabbat, a fact that I find very likely anyway given their temperament,
and/or that those that do participate in that sect are from Ventrue bloodlines
with tastes that are very expansive and undiscriminating or simply happen
to fit the parameters of the radical sect. One might imagine, for
example, that there could be a Ventrue who could only feed upon blood that
was the mixed product of three or more individuals, or something of that
nature. I find this an unlikely prospect, however, though one that
I would enjoy investigating further. Well, off to serve Lord Marcus
again, lest he grow suspicious of the presence of milady.
