WHITE DWARF 228
This month's White Dwarf covers the unveiling of the infamous
Space Marine Chapter known as the Blood Angels. Players will
get a preview of the Codex: Blood Angels and all of their
crimson-filled history. This will include a look at their own variant
of the Predator tank, the Baal Predator. After reading about the
Blood Angels it's off to a huge battle report between the Blood
Angels and Saim-Hann Craftworld Eldar. From there we veer off
toward the darker side of things - Dark Eldar! In this White Dwarf,
Dark Eldar players get a peek at the Dark Eldar Raider and other
Dark Eldar releases. Then, Chaos players get a treat in a
Chapter Approved article by Andy Chambers. Andy gives out the
details for Chaos rewards and Marks of Chaos. These rules will
assuredly give Chaos players a new edge on the field!
Meanwhile, in the Warhammer world, David Cain offers up some
sage advice for getting the best out of flyers in your games. Of
course, there is the continuing Dogs of War releases which get
the spotlight along side the release of a fantastic new plastic
Siege Tower. There are a ton of conversion ideas, plus a bunch
of new metal bits are released that are perfect for modifying your
Warhammer Fortress or Siege Towers! Finally, for Warhammer
there is another colossal battle report, this one pitting David
Cain's Lizardmen force against Alessio Cavatore's Wood Elves.
There is a neat little article bringing treacherous conditions to
Gorkamorka. Our 'How to Paint' series continues along with the
introduction of our latest member of the Citadel Design team,
Chris Fitzpatrick. And that will wrap up White Dwarf issue #228!

NEW RELEASES FOR NOVEMBER
Warhammer Fantasy Battle Releases
Dogs of War
Leave that boring life behind and join up with the Dogs of War. Your
mercenary adventures can take you to such exotic locations as the
jungles of Lustria just like Pirazzo's Lost Legion! This Regiment of
Renown is famed for its battle-readiness and is reflected in the
fact that they come equipped with pikes and crossbows (you have to
pick one or the other before the game though!). Pirazzo's Lost
Legion is a great choice for players who want to embark in a
campaign and need a very versatile unit. One game they can come with
pikes and the next you can field Pirazzo's troops with crossbows!
1519 Pirazzo's Lost Legion $34.99
(Boxed set of twelve models) Regiment of Renown
8592R Pirazzo's Lost Legion $5.99
(Two models per blister)
Also released for the Dogs of War is Lorenzo Lupo, a powerful
Special Character and mercenary general that can lead your Dogs of
War armies into the battle. Adding some heavy hitting power to the
Dogs of War army is Voland's Venators. This heavy cavalry unit is a
must-have for a mercenary army (or armies that are usually bereft of
any cavalry like Dwarfs or Skaven), that wants to smash through
enemy lines.
8592Q Lorenzo Lupo $7.99 (One Model
per blister)
8592S Voland's Venators $7.99 (One
mounted model per blister)
Mean and Green
One of the most exciting releases this month is the new Night Goblin
Regiment, another one of our great plastic Warhammer Regiments. It
comes with twenty plastic Night Goblins that can be armed with bows
or spears (and shields that have three different icons to choose
from!) and all the metal bits to make a Musician, Standard Bearer,
and Champion. Like every Warhammer Regiment we do, there are a ton
of accessories that come on the sprues, from a bunch of little
mushrooms to those nasty little green-skinned Snotlings! This boxed
set even comes with a new base that players can use to fit four
models on at a time. Since Night Goblins usually are fielded in huge
units of fifty models or more, this cuts setup time in half!
1524 Night Goblins Regiment $22.99
(Boxed set of twenty plastic models) Warhammer Regiment!
Towering Siege!
Released this month for Warhammer Siege players is the great new
Siege Tower. This fantastic plastic model lines up perfectly against
our Warhammer Fortress and even sports a real working drawbridge
(you have to supply the rope or chain though!). If you don't have
time to build a siege tower of your own, this is the perfect option!
3010 Warhammer Siege Tower $32.99
(Boxed set of one plastic model)
Unfurl the Banners
Finally, there is a bunch of new High Elf banners and Dark Elf
banners. These banners sport sticky backs so all you have to do is
wrap them around their model's banner pole and suddenly your unit
will have a mighty standard to rally around in their next battle!
These come with all the banners on a single sheet (like the recent
Chaos and Beastman banner sheets), so you can see all of them in the
clear plastic set at once.
4011 High Elf Banners $6.99 (Baggie
full of stick on banners)
4012 Dark Elf Banners $6.99 (Baggie
full of stick on banners)

Warhammer 40,000 Releases
BLOOD ANGELS
Releases for the Blood Angels continue to spill forth this month. On
the top of the list will surely be the new Baal Predator, a variant
based on our Space Marine Predator tanks. It sports a bunch of new
metal accessories, including a new metal turret and cupola, a new
metal Space Marine Tank Commander, a new metal front plate with the
Blood Angel symbol, and most importantly, the twin linked Assault
Cannons. While this tank is unique for Blood Angel armies, any of
their successor Chapters can use it as well. It not only looks
cool, but kicks some serious butt in the game too!
1521 Blood Angels Baal Predator $32.50
(Boxed set of one plastic and metal model)
The Black Rage
Following last month's release of the Blood Angels Death Company
boxed set are the Death Company models in blister packs. This will
allow you to build up their Death Company squads to any size you
desire. Also released this month is Chaplain Lemartes, a new
special character. He is known as the Guardian of the Lost for his
dedication of looking after those that have succumbed to the Black
Rage. In the game he has the ability to keep the Death Company from
charging headlong into battle, and even direct their rage where
their bloodlust could help them sway the battle into the Blood
Angel's favor.
8006P Death Company Space Marines $6.99
(Two models per blister)
8039B Blood Angel Chaplain Lemartes $8.99
(One model per blister)
More Marines!
Next month, get ready for all your Space Marine players to start
frothing over the new plastic Assault Marines. These new models are
even cooler than the new plastic Space Marines that everyone went
bonkers over. Be sure to check them out!
And More Dark Eldar!
New releases kept springing up for the Dark Eldar as well. This
month Dark Eldar players can get their hands on more infantry, the
sleek Reaver Jetbikes, and the infamous Urien Rakarth.
Close Combat Masters (and Mistresses!)
The Dark Eldar receive more close combat support with the release of
the Dark Eldar Wyches in blister packs. Players can add on to the
squads they bought last month in the Dark Eldar Wyches boxed set,
expanding their unit to frightening sizes. To help add even more
punch, they can pick up the Wych with Blaster, who is great at
taking at those heavily armored Imperial Tanks or Space Marines, and
the Wych with Shredder, - perfect for taking out masses of troops
with high Toughness like Orks or Genestealers.
8076F Dark Eldar Wyches $6.99 (Two
models per blister)
8076g Dark Eldar Wych w/ Close Combat Weapons
$3.99
(One model per blister)
8076g Dark Eldar Wych w/ Blaster $3.99
One model per blister)
8076g Dark Eldar Wych w/ Shredder $3.99
(One model per blister)
Release the Warp Hounds!
Adding some more speed to the Dark Eldar army is the Dark Eldar
Beastmaster and Warp Beasts. In the game these models can literally
sprint across the field, and their powerful attacks in hand-to-hand
combat mean they can take on and defeat some of the toughest foes
out there!
8076A Dark Eldar Beastmaster w/ Warp Beast $7.99
(Two models per blister)
8076B Warp Beasts $5.99 (Two models
per blister)
"They're coming in too fast!"
Long anticipated, the Dark Eldar Reaver Jetbikes are here. This
boxed set comes with three plastic Jetbikes with metal add-on bits
(just like the Space Marine Bike Squadron). Reaver Jetbikes are
extremely fast, able to cover 24" in just one round. Their fast
speed make them great for flanking maneuvers and getting the enemy
into a crossfire. They are driven by rather insane members of the
Wych cult, which means they get the added bonus of combat drugs and
vicious close combat capabilities.
3010 Dark Eldar Jet Bike Squadron $39.99
(Boxed set of three plastic and metal models)
Since players can field up to ten jetbikes in one squad, we are also
releasing the single Reaver Jetbike boxed set. This will include
only the plastic jetbike, but without the metal bits found in the
bigger boxed set.
1522 Dark Eldar Jetbike $12.50
(Boxed set of one plastic miniature)
Unnecessary Surgery
The first Special Character to be released for the Dark Eldar is
Urien Rakarth, the Master Haemonculus. A master torturer and
experimenter, Urien is also a powerful warrior in the game. Players
can also use this model to represent a regular Haemonculus if their
opponent doesn't want to face Urien (and who does?).
8078K Urien Rakarth, Master Haemonculus $9.99
(One model per blister)
Next month the rampage of Dark Eldar releases will continue with
more Dark Eldar Warrior models, Succubi, and more!

extra added touch for your showcase figures!

NEW CATALOG!
The 1998 Citadel Miniatures Holiday Catalog. It's more than just
a collection of our models, it's a full color extravaganza! Rather
than an all-inclusive catalog, this portrays all of our most popular
models, perfect for giving to people just getting into the hobby or
interested in what it's about. And best yet - it's free!
1999 Citadel Miniatures Complete Catalog
Coming in February is the 1999 Citadel Miniatures Complete Catalog.
This tome will contain our current line of miniatures, but that is
just the beginning. In the past, our catalogs have been massive
books showing each model in single black and white shots. This year,
we've got a new plan. This catalog will be full-color, showing full
unit shots rather than individual models. Why are we doing this? Our
games are about complete armies, full units and squads clashing on
the fields of battle and this catalog will show that. If you want to
see each individual model and all the pieces that make those models
up then we have the 1999 Citadel Annual, which will show all the
bare metal & plastic bits.
This catalog is a great way to show prospective players, new
players, and even some of the older gamers out there what the hobby,
and fully composed armies can (and should IMHO -Tim) look like. When
verbal descriptions of that Wood Elf army keeps falling short, just
grab this catalog, flip to the Wood Elf section, and show folks this
woodland army in all of its leafy glory!
What else makes this catalog such a valuable tool? Like our new 1998
Holiday Catalog, these full-color shots will become invaluable
painting guides. Anybody who paints their army will tell you (and
everybody should be painting their army!) there comes a time when
they need some visual inspiration to put together that ultimate
paint scheme. Nowhere else will they be able to find such a
definitive source for painted models! But that is just the
beginning. We also plan to pack this catalog full of gaming advice,
army tactics and information for putting together an army in the
best way possible. For people new to the hobby, the 1999 Citadel
Miniatures Complete Catalog will become an indispensable resource,
and for veteran gamers there will be tons of tips and tricks they
can add to their already formidable repertoire.
FROM THE BLACK LIBRARY:
More madness from our fiction section! Ian Pickstock
sends in these words on the issues this month:
WARHAMMER MONTHLY #11

but of course winding up in deep trouble instead! Dark
Elves clash with Wardancer in "Shadowfast" over a powerful
artifact that can raise the dead Elven sprits, and to top if
off we have the cataclysmic conclusion of Book 1 of
"Daemonifuge" (and boy if we ever do a 40K movie, I hope
this is the script! - Tim).

CITADEL JOURNAL #30

the incredible Chaos 40K war machines sighted at Games Day

WHITE DWARF 229 SNEAK PEEK!
Inside White Dwarf (renamed Black Gobbo for this issue!) #229 you'll
find a ton of goodies for both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000
enthusiasts. Starting off with the new plastic Night Goblin
Regiment, players will get sixteen pages full of those malevolent
little monsters. This article will cover assembling, painting,
converting, and all the other cool things that you can do with this
new Warhammer Regiment. Plus, there will be other bits covering
Night Goblin fanatics and tons of new artwork from madman Wayne
England!
After all that reading about the new Night Goblin Regiment, it is
time to test their mettle against the new Studio Empire army in a
colossal eighteen page Warhammer Battle Report!!! If all that
doesn't help quench your Warhammer craving then read all about the
other plastic Warhammer Regiment being released in February - Empire
Crossbowmen!
Mordheim, City of the Damned gets its final installment. This four
page article will contain extra rules for experience, adding to
those already published over the last few issues. It will also
contain one last round of the Mordheim comic strip.
Warhammer 40,000 rings in with an article called "Painting a Dark
Eldar army" by gaming fanatic Nick Davis. In addition to all the
great new Dark Eldar releases, there will be a fabulous new game -
Arena of Blood. It features Dark Eldar Wyches doing what they do
best, battling it out in the gladiator pits! This issue will feature
a poster and card counters to play this game on! Andy Chamber's
continuing 'Chapter Approved' articles will feature Orks and a full
Death Company army list.
Another cool issue - and given that we've sold out of the last
several ones here, don't wait too long to get it!

Huck's Hopefully Helpful Hints:
Tips for painting Lizardmen!
"Here is a great way to paint Lizardmen Saurus Warriors in 5 easy
steps. Which are a great way for a beginner painter, or away to
paint lots of Saurus Warriors quickly and the look good too.
Step1) Spray paint all of the Saurus Warriors with White Citadel
undercoat. Don't cut them out yet.
Step2) Paint the entire model with Orc Flesh Wash.(and wait to dry)
Step3) Paint the entire model with Armour Wash. ( and wait to dry)
Step4) paint the weapon (appropriate colours) and add the details
(eg) jewelry, pouches and belts.
Step5) Glue together, paint and flock the base, and then use Citadel
Varnish (matte)
from Jamie Peake
http://members.xoom.com/Warhammer1/"
and more on decals!
"Hi. I use a simple and very efficient method to add lettering to
those tiny banners on shoulder pads, Dreadnoughts, etc.
If you notice on the water-transfer decal sheets, often times the
different markings are labeled (HONOUR BADGES, CHAPTER BADGES, etc)
These words are also water-transfers.
By cutting out words or even parts of words, you can make small but
clean words to fit on these banners.
Some examples that I have used are below:
RAVEN (the name of my Space Marine Dreadnought. I plan to make
a
second named WOLF and possibly a third named ANGEL)
HONOUR
MARTYR
ORDER
BLOOD
DEATH
If you take a little time to look on the decal sheets, dozens of
words can be made simply, easily, better than you can probably do by
hand, and best of all, free. These are on the scraps that were
probably going to be thrown away anyhow.
