Saudi King pardons rape victim? December 17, 2007

Okay, this is ridiculous. I mean, I acknowledge it is good that he at least bothered to interrupt his “busy” schedule, of sucking up a lifestyle bankrolled by fat oil profits and antidemocratic privilege, to exercise his power to prevent the enforcement of Saudi law from making the poor woman’s life any worse. Nonetheless, the fact that this was essentially the headline on today’s news is absurd. The idea that somebody who is raped is somehow guilty of committing a crime, just by virtue of being a victim, is stupid, and conducting any action meant to promote that idea is immoral. What the Saudi king really needs to do is revoke what is obviously a retarded, antiquated legal idiocy, the continued existence of which makes Saudi society look bad.
